The Seattle Arboretum In the Summer

I love anytime I get the opportunity to take photos of family! Jen, who is my cousin reached out to me for a summer session, and I was excited to recommend we go to the Seattle Arboretum. I go here often in the fall, its a go-to and top ranked locations to shoot at. When I visit in September with clients, the parked is full of photographers!

This visit was so much fun, not only because I got to see my cousin, her husband Chad and their 3 babies (big kids are still babies to me), but parking was the easiest it has EVER been. Yes, you read that right- I am still, 2 weeks later so happy about the parking! If you have been here during prime time, you know that you can circle this places 3x before finding a spot. With all the cars and people, I’d rather just park a mile away and walk! This day, was an exception and we were able to start the session early because of it. (its the small things in life).

Ole, Axel and Majbritt did such a great job with photos. I always get nervous with families, which is odd, considering its 70% of my clientele!. To be honest, you never know what you will get. Some kids are so excited, some kids refuse to smile for the entire hour! For every kid we add to the group, the more blinks, and yawns I capture, which is why I will leave a family session with upward of 800 images to sort through! When you have a family of 5 you need to capture everyone looking at you, eyes open, no one talking and hopefully one of everyone smiling! Thankfully, I was able to return 80+ photos to them!

The park was perfect on this day. When we arrived we had a good amount of overcast and I got a little nervous about lighting, but we found the perfect spot and the sun peaked out for a few minutes, in which I think I captured a couple hundred photos right then in there. Its always nice to be able to capture that glow that everyone loves. In this moment Jen wanted to capture photos of her “baby wearing” Majbritt, and I think these are some of the sweetest photos I have ever captured! Jen was telling me how special baby wearing was for her, and as a mom myself I wish I got more opportunities to do it with William and Liv. I loved seeing Majbritt lean in to give her mama a kiss, these moments go so fast and its why I love photography, because now, this moment is officially frozen in time for Jen and the family.
